What is ADHD?
ADHD is a condition which affects school age children throughout the world. ADHD has a variety of problems, like being distracted easily, being hyperactive (very active), and impulsive behavior, such as not being able to wait in a line.

What Causes ADHD?

Scientists are still not quite sure what causes ADHD. Some ideas are:
Abnormal brain function/shape
Hereditary (ADHD often runs in families)
Exposure to toxins (ex. lead)
The mother smoking/drinking during pregnancy
What are the symptoms of ADHD?
ADHD's symptoms are mainly impulsive/hyperactive behavior and inattentive behavior. Some children have just one type, but most children with ADHD have a mix of both. To be diagnosed with ADHD, people must show symptoms before they are seven years old, in two or more environments (ex. at home and at school).

Yes! Some people who have or are thought to have ADHD are: Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, Vincent Van Gogh, Henry Ford and Bill Gates, to name a few.

1. Medication. Medications are often used with ADHD. One of the most used is Ritalin, which is a stimulant. They work by increasing the effectiveness of chemicals in the brain which controls attention.
2. Therapy. Therapy is often used along with Medication. The most common for ADHD people is behavioral therapy, which teaches ADHD children to control their behavior.

Family can help by talking to their kids to give them guidance and understanding. Family members can also talk to a specialist, who can show how to help make positive changes. You can also make a ridged structure for each day, and also try to limit distractions.
